Who Should Take a Refresher?
A refresher is recommended for certified divers who:
Have not dived for an extended period
Feel uncomfortable returning to the water
Want to rebuild confidence
Have forgotten basic scuba skills
Are unfamiliar with their current equipment
Are returning after a long break
Want to prepare for a dive trip
Are transitioning to a different BCD or regulator configuration
Want an instructor-supervised skills review
A refresher may also be recommended before participating in more demanding dives.
How Long Should I Be Out of the Water?
There is no single number that applies to every diver.
The need for a refresher depends on:
Time since your last dive
Number of previous dives
Recent diving experience
Comfort level
Equipment familiarity
Type of dive planned
If you are unsure about your readiness, our instructor can assess your experience and recommend the appropriate level of refresher training.
Is This a Certification Course?
No.
The Scuba Refresher Course does not renew, replace, or upgrade your diving certification.
Your existing certification remains subject to the policies of your certifying agency.
The refresher is simply designed to help you regain your skills and confidence.
Assessment
There is no traditional pass-or-fail examination.
Your instructor will assess your ability to perform essential skills safely and comfortably.
If additional practice is required, the session can be extended or additional training can be recommended.
What to Bring
Please bring:
Valid diving certification
Dive logbook
Personal dive equipment, if available
Swimwear
Towel
Extra clothes
Sunscreen
Drinking water
Personal medications, if required
Rental equipment is available subject to availability.
Important Safety Information
The instructor may modify the training based on the diver's current ability and comfort level.
The open-water dive may be postponed, shortened, or moved to another site due to:
Weather
Waves
Currents
Poor visibility
Equipment issues
Diver fatigue
Medical concerns
Other safety considerations
Safety and diver readiness always take priority over completing the planned schedule.
After Your Refresher
Once you've completed the refresher and demonstrated adequate comfort and control, you can return to appropriate recreational diving within the limits of your certification and experience.
For divers planning deeper, technical, cave, sidemount, or CCR diving after a long break, additional specialized skills review may be recommended.
