The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is designed for experienced Divemasters who want to become professional scuba instructors and develop the knowledge, teaching skills, presentation abilities, and professional judgment required to teach scuba diving.
The DiveISC IDC combines two major components:
Assistant Instructor (AI)
+
Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)
Successful candidates can then proceed to the PADI Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final examination stage toward becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Day 1–2
Orientation, theory review & preparation

Actual duration can vary according to the Course Director, candidate progress and scheduled Instructor Examination.
Current Philippine IDC programs advertised through PADI range from approximately 12 to 20 days.
PREREQUISITES
Candidates must generally:
Be at least 18 years old
Hold a Divemaster certification or equivalent leadership-level certification
Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months
Have at least 60 logged dives to begin the IDC
Have at least 100 logged dives to attend the IE
Have current CPR & First Aid training within the previous 24 months
Have a medical statement signed by a physician within the previous 12 months
Have appropriate diving experience including deep, night and navigation diving
PADI also states that a Divemaster may enroll in the IDC once the six-month certification requirement is met, with the applicable logged-dive and medical requirements.

This is where candidates begin putting the instructor methodology into realistic diving situations.
