Emergency First Response (EFR) Course
Be Ready When It Matters Most
Emergencies don't always happen in the water.
The Emergency First Response (EFR) Course teaches practical CPR, first aid, and emergency-care skills that can be used at home, at work, while travelling, on a boat, or during a dive emergency.
Designed for both divers and non-divers, EFR focuses on building the confidence and practical skills needed to respond effectively during the critical minutes before professional medical help arrives.
PADI describes EFR as a non-stressful, hands-on CPR and first-aid program designed to build confidence and willingness to respond during medical emergencies.

Who Can Take EFR?
Almost anyone can take EFR.
You do not need to be a scuba diver to participate.
The course is suitable for:
Divers
Non-divers
Parents
Teachers
Resort staff
Boat crews
Tour guides
Outdoor enthusiasts
First responders
Workplace personnel
Dive professionals
Anyone who wants practical CPR and first-aid skills
EFR is also commonly used as the CPR/First Aid component required for progression into Rescue Diver and professional diving programs.
Why Divers Should Take EFR
For divers and dive professionals, first-aid knowledge is an essential part of emergency preparedness.
The course helps you become more prepared to respond to situations involving:
Diving injuries
Unresponsive divers
Serious bleeding
Breathing emergencies
Shock
Trauma
Near-drowning incidents
Medical emergencies
EFR complements, but does not replace, specialized diving emergency training.
Course Approach
Our training focuses on hands-on learning.
Students will:
Learn the appropriate response procedure.
Watch instructor demonstrations.
Practice the skill.
Receive instructor feedback.
Repeat the skill until competent.
Apply the skills in practical scenarios.
The goal is to build confidence through practice, not simply complete a written examination.
Assessment
EFR is primarily a practical, skills-based course.
Students must demonstrate the required skills according to the standards of the selected training agency.
Additional practice may be provided when a student needs more time to become comfortable with a particular skill.
Certification Validity
For divers progressing into Rescue Diver and professional-level programs, current CPR and First Aid training is generally required.
EFR certification is commonly renewed every 24 months to keep these emergency-response skills current.
Renewal is strongly recommended because CPR and first-aid skills can deteriorate without regular practice.
What to Bring
Please bring:
Comfortable clothing
Notebook or pen
Personal identification
Personal medications, if required
All required training equipment will be provided during the course.
Important Information
EFR is a first-aid and emergency-response training program, not a professional medical qualification.
The course teaches participants how to provide appropriate first aid and emergency care within the limits of their training while waiting for professional medical assistance.
It does not qualify participants to diagnose medical conditions, prescribe treatment, or replace licensed medical professionals.
EFR for Dive Professionals
EFR is particularly valuable for:
Divemasters
Instructors
Dive Guides
Dive Center Staff
Boat Crew
Technical Divers
Cave Divers
CCR Divers
For divers pursuing professional-level training, maintaining current CPR and First Aid training is an important part of staying prepared for emergencies.
