Emergency First Response (EFR) Course

Be Ready When It Matters Most

Emergencies don't always happen in the water.

The Emergency First Response (EFR) Course teaches practical CPR, first aid, and emergency-care skills that can be used at home, at work, while travelling, on a boat, or during a dive emergency.

Designed for both divers and non-divers, EFR focuses on building the confidence and practical skills needed to respond effectively during the critical minutes before professional medical help arrives.

PADI describes EFR as a non-stressful, hands-on CPR and first-aid program designed to build confidence and willingness to respond during medical emergencies.

The goal is to build confidence through practice, not simply complete a written examination.

Assessment

EFR is primarily a practical, skills-based course.

Students must demonstrate the required skills according to the standards of the selected training agency.

Additional practice may be provided when a student needs more time to become comfortable with a particular skill.

Certification Validity

For divers progressing into  Rescue Diver and professional-level programs, current CPR and First Aid training is generally required.

EFR certification is commonly renewed every 24 months to keep these emergency-response skills current.

Renewal is strongly recommended because CPR and first-aid skills can deteriorate without regular practice.

What to Bring
